Woman seeks divorce two weeks after wedding
A woman named Wuraola Surajudeen went to the Ilorin Area Court on Wednesday to request a divorce two weeks after her marriage to Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi, citing a lack of love and affection as the reason for their separation.
She revealed that she was previously married to someone else before her current marriage to Iya-Onitasi. She explained, “I got divorced from my first husband because my mother was putting a lot of pressure on me.”
“My former husband became a religious fanatic after our marriage and my parents were against him.
“I was introduced to my present husband and we got along smoothly, but immediately after the marriage, I developed hatred for him,”she said.
The defendant had informed the court that his wife left the house without his consent, saying that she was tired of the marriage.
He also mentioned that he had several attempts to consummate the marriage, but she would not allow him, leading him to let her leave.
The presiding judge, Hammed Ajumonbi, has ordered the respondent to return the dowry.
The case has been adjourned for a divorce hearing that is set for December 4.
