We will continue demolishing shanties, no amount of protest can stop us – Wike vows
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the ongoing demolition of shanties in Abuja, stating firmly that protests will not deter the government’s efforts.
Wike made this statement during a visit to the Ruga community along the Wuye axis of the capital.
According to Channel 4 News, Wike mentioned that the administration plans to engage in dialogue with the residents of the shanties in Abuja to seek sustainable solutions to the issue of illegal settlements. The objective, he emphasized, is to formulate long-term recommendations to prevent the relaunch of these informal communities.
In response to a recent protest on Friday, November 8, where protesters accused the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) of being “land grabbers,” Wike dismissed these claims, characterizing the protest as misplaced.
“We are determined to maintain the city’s master plan,” he asserted, adding that public opposition will not sway the administration’s decision to proceed with demolitions aimed at restoring order and ensuring safety within the capital.
