We will arrest, prosecute anyone who pirates my new movie Funke Akindele tells fans
Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has issued a strong warning to movie pirates.
In a video shared on her verified X account on Wednesday, she urged them to steer clear of her films.
Akindele cautioned her fans against recording or distributing any segments of the movie online, emphasizing that such actions are considered piracy and could lead to serious repercussions.
While she expressed gratitude for her fans’ love and support, she highlighted that filming or sharing clips undermines the significant effort and resources that go into making the film.
She encouraged her followers to support the movie by taking photos at the cinema, sharing official trailers, and refraining from any unauthorized sharing.
Additionally, she announced that stringent security measures have been put in place at cinemas to catch offenders, warning that anyone caught recording or posting unauthorized content on platforms like TikTok would face arrest and legal consequences.
She said,
“Don’t be scared, I’m fine. But if you go to the cinema to see the movie and you bring out your phone or any device you have to film it, then I will not be fine.
“I know you got mad love for me as my fans; I know you respect me so much; I know you want to support me; I know you want to promote my movie, but you filming it is not you supporting me.
“Do not upload on your social media account. Don’t bring out your phone. No recording. If you want to support me, go to the cinema, take pictures by the stands, post my trailer, the teasers of the movie, and I will be fine.
“The act of filming it on the screen is piracy. We must not encourage piracy. We are taking up serious security measures to arrest anyone that does that. I love my fans so much. Don’t be caught doing it because it is killing us. It is not helping our brand. We need to grow more than this. We spent a lot of money.
“Do not post on TikTok, so you will not be a scapegoat. We will take legal action, and you will be arrested. I beg you in the name of God.”
