VeryDarkMan to appear in court today for wearing police uniform
Popular online activist Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), is set to appear in court today facing charges of impersonation.
The allegations arise from a viral video in which VeryDarkMan was captured wearing uniforms of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) without proper authorization.
The NPF has publicly denounced VeryDarkMan in a video released recently, where he identifies himself as CSP VeryDarkMan and claims to be Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
This statement was made by the NPF in a post on its social media account on Friday.
According to the announcement, the FCT Police Command is leading the charge in the prosecution, underscoring the force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its uniforms and deterring unauthorized use.
The public is urged to remain updated as the case unfolds in court.
The NPF’s statement reads, “Martins Otse is scheduled to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation linked to the unauthorized use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video.”
“The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse.
“Interested persons are encouraged to follow up on the proceedings as the case unfolds.”
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan was apprehended by the police on Thursday following a response to a formal summons.
While the nature of VDM’s offense was not specified, his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, mentioned his detention in a social media post on Thursday.
Adeyanju revealed that his client had previously accepted a similar invitation on Wednesday.
His post read, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
