US President elect Donald Trump appoints first-ever woman Chief of Staff
US President-elect Donald Trump has named his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as his Chief of Staff, making her the first woman to hold the position.
This appointment signals the beginning of what is expected to be a series of staffing decisions as Trump prepares to take office on January 20.
Calling her the “winner campaign manager,” Trump said, “It is a well-deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history.”
He praised her as “tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” in a statement his campaign shared on Twitter.
The Chief of Staff is a critical role, serving as the president’s gatekeeper, overseeing White House staff, organizing the president’s schedule, and communicating with other government departments and lawmakers.
Regarding Wiles’ contribution to his campaign, Trump remarked, “She just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history.”
Vice President-elect JD Vance said on X, “This is great news. Susie was a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign and will be a huge asset in the White House.”
During his previous term, Trump had four Chiefs of Staff, including a retired Army general, John Kelly, who later turned against him. Kelly criticized Trump as a “fascist” and supported Vice President Kamala Harris.
