Tyler Perry Studios president, Steve Mensch d!es in Florida plane crash
The president and general manager of studio operations at Tyler Perry Studios, Steve Mensch has d!ed in a plane crash at the age of 62.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers discovered Mensch deceased at the crash site of a single-seat aircraft near the intersection of Highway 19 and Longfellow Street in Homosassa, Florida.
Sources close to the studio confirmed that Mensch was piloting the plane when it went down on the night of December 6.
On Saturday, the studio released a statement confirming the loss of their esteemed president and general manager. “We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Steve Mensch,” the statement read. “Steve was a beloved member of our team for over eight years and held a special place in the Atlanta community. It’s hard to envision our workplace without his warm smile. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
The crash occurred in Homosassa, approximately 60 miles north of Tampa, with images from the scene showing the plane overturned on a roadway.
Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the incident.
The single-engine Vans RV-12IS was registered to Mensch at his residence in Fayetteville, a suburb of Atlanta, as per FAA records.
In an emotional Instagram post on Saturday evening, Tyler Perry expressed his sorrow: “I’ve been trying to comprehend this tragedy all day—what went wrong with that plane. Steve had a passion for flying and took immense pride in that aircraft. He was a genuinely kind person and an exceptional leader at the studio. We all cherished him and are heartbroken by his passing. My prayers are with his family as we navigate this profound loss.”
