Two siblings loses their lives as fire razes apartment in Ondo
Two young siblings reportedly lost their lives in a devastating fire that consumed their apartment on Church Street in Oluwatuyi Quarters, Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The boys, aged three and five, were left alone in their room by their mother, who had stepped out to purchase groceries just as the flames erupted around 3:30 PM.
Witnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly throughout the apartment, and it wasn’t until it was too late that neighbors realized the children were trapped inside. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the sounds of the children’s cries were mistaken for the usual disciplinary actions from their mother.
After the fire was extinguished, the charred remains of the toddlers were discovered at the apartment’s entrance, prompting police from the ‘B’ Division in Akure to arrive and recover the bodies. The children’s father, upon learning of the tragedy, reportedly collapsed and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
CSP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police public relations officer for the state, confirmed the heartbreaking incident, stating that the children had succumbed to smoke inhalation and burns.
