Trump sues CBS for $10b over ‘doctored’ Kamala Harris interview
Former US President, Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against CBS, alleging that the network’s interview with Vice President Kamala Harris was “doctored” and constituted election interference.
Trump claims that CBS presented two distinct versions of Harris’s responses during an interview about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
His legal team argues that the 60 Minutes interview, which aired on October 6, omitted Harris’s “word salad” response regarding the influence of the Biden administration on Israel’s actions.
A preview of the interview on Face the Nation featured correspondent Bill Whitaker questioning Harris about why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to be unresponsive to US calls.
In the Face the Nation version, Harris stated, “Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in several movements in that region that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”
The following day, when the same question was presented on 60 Minutes primetime, Harris was instead shown delivering a more succinct response: ‘We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.’
To address Kamala Harris’ perceived weakness in articulation, CBS utilized its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from exercising judgment in reporting to deceptive, manipulative manipulation of news, as stated in Trump’s lawsuit filed in the Northern District of Texas on Thursday, five days before the US election.
Trump’s legal team alleges that CBS’s edits were an ‘attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party as the heated 2024 Presidential Election – which President Trump is leading – approaches its conclusion.
The former president is seeking at least $ 10 billion in damages and a jury trial.
