‘They’re threatening to cancel my show over economy comment’ – Davido
Afrobeats artist Davido has reported receiving threats following his remarks on an American podcast criticising the state of Nigeria’s economy.
Recall that Davido had on an American podcast, ‘Big Homies House’, warned US citizens against contemplating relocation to Africa, especially Nigeria, saying the country’s economy is in “shambles.”
His comments sparked a strong reaction, with several high-profile Nigerians, including Joe Igbokwe, Reno Omokri, among others, publicly criticizing him for his views.
In response to the criticism, Davido defended himself, stating that his critics were upset because they believed artists should be the primary ambassadors for Nigeria.
On his X handle, he wrote, “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!”
In another post, Davido alleged that there are threats to cancel his show in Lagos this December over his remarks.
He wrote, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
