Ten persons reportedly dead in Jigawa car crash
A terrible accident resulted in the death of ten people and numerous serious injuries in Taura Local Government Area (LGA), Jigawa State.
A local resident confirmed this to the DAILY POST, stating that the incident took place in Yanfari village, Taura LGA, along the road connecting Kano and Hadejia.
The exact cause of the accident, as reported by a bystander, involved a bus colliding with a loaded trailer registered as RGN 180 ZC. This collision led to the trailer somersaulting and the fatalities of the ten passengers at the scene.
Detective-In-Charge of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, corroborated these details. He shared that on November 12, 2024, around 21:30 hours, a fatal road accident occurred in Yanfari village, Taura LGA, near the Kano/Hadejia Road.
“The accident occurred when a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number HDJ 631 YDD, driving by one Sani Mainasara of Hadejia LGA, was coming from Kano to Hadejia, conveying eleven (11) passengers, on reaching the scene, the bus hit a packed Trailer with registration number RGN 180 ZC, as a result of which, the vehicle somersaulted.”
Shiisu said the driver and nine passengers died on the spot.
He added, “On receipt of the tragic incident, the patrol team attached to Taura Division raced to the scene.
“Corpses were evacuated to Hadejia General Hospital for medical examinations, where the medical doctor on call certified them dead. One remaining passenger was admitted at Majia Primary Health Care Centre and he is responding to treatment.”
An investigation into the matter has been initiated. Shiisu emphasized that legal actions will be taken against anyone found liable for these tragic events.
