Super Falcons begin gold hunt against Brazil in Paris 2024 Olympics
The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to embark on their quest for a podium finish at the 2024 Olympic Games, facing Brazil in their opening Group C match on Thursday (today).
The match is scheduled to take place at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux, kicking off at 6pm.
The Super Falcons are returning to the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus.
This evening’s match will mark the third time Nigeria and Brazil have competed against each other.
In their previous encounters, Brazil emerged victorious in the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a score of 4-3, and also won 3-1 in the last match between the two teams at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Brazil will be guided by the legendary Marta, who has scored 118 goals in 183 appearances for the Samba Girls.
The Super Falcons will also face current world champions Spain and former world champions Japan in the same group.
Randy Waldrum’s team suffered a 1-0 loss to Canada in their sole friendly match before the Olympics.
