‘Still waxing strong’ – Wumi Toriola boasts as she breaks box office record
Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has broken Toyin Abraham’s box office record, a few days after her triumphant reign as the 2024 box office champion.
The actress was honored with the title of box office champion by the Federal Government through the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB.
Toriola broke Abraham’s record with her latest film, ‘Queen Lateefah’, which has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Nigerian films of all time.
Since its release in September, the film has earned N350 million in just two months, beating Abraham’s ‘Malaika’, which brought in N302 million.
This new milestone has positioned ‘Queen Lateefah’ among the top 7 highest-grossing films in Nollywood. The film is now set to compete with the records established by actress Funke Akindele with ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ and ‘Battle On Buka Street’ films.
In response to this achievement on Instagram, she shared, “No 7, Queen Lateefah is still on the rise and shining bright! Grossing 350M and 7th Highest Grossing Nollywood Title of All Time. Big thanks to everyone.”
