Singer Trey Songz ordered to pay $11M to beating up police officer
R&B artist Trey Songz has been ordered to pay over $11 million in damages following a 2021 battery case involving a Maryland Capitol police officer.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Tyrelle Dunn, the officer who initiated the lawsuit, alleged that he sustained injuries while attempting to rescue his wife from Trey Songz’s hotel room at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas during the singer’s 37th birthday celebration.
Dunn’s lawsuit claimed that Songz invited a group of women to his room, where Dunn’s wife allegedly screamed for help, saying she was being held against her will. When Dunn intervened, he says he was attacked by Songz and his security team, leaving him with serious injuries, including fractured eye sockets and permanent scarring that caused him to miss work.
Although Songz was acquitted of criminal charges in April 2022, Dunn chose to pursue a civil lawsuit. The court documents reveal that Songz failed to respond to the lawsuit, leading to a default judgment in Dunn’s favor.
The Las Vegas judge awarded damages to Dunn for past medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages, totalling over $11 million.
This decision represents a significant legal and financial blow for the “Bottoms Up” singer, who has faced numerous controversies in recent years. Neither Trey Songz nor his legal team have made any public statements regarding the judgment.
