Nigerian industrialist and billionaire’s wife, Shade Okoya, is clearing the air on her marriage to 85-year-old business mogul Razak Okoya, stating boldly that she has no regrets and has never missed out on anything despite their age difference.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Yoruba, the 48-year-old socialite, who married Okoya in 1999 at just 21, dismissed long-running criticisms of their union, which has often been scrutinized due to their wide age gap.
“i’ve never missed out on anything,” Shade Okoya says confidently
Speaking candidly about her life and marriage, Shade Okoya described her husband as generous, loving, and a strong supporter of her success and happiness.
“My husband has been very generous with me and defends me anywhere,” she said. “God said this is where I will be. We met each other, and he liked me, and he did not waste time at all.”
The mother of four emphasized that, contrary to popular belief, marrying an older man has not robbed her of any experiences or joy.
“I’m happy in my marriage to him. He is far older than me but I don’t think I ever missed out on anything because I didn’t marry a younger man.”
Shade’s comments have since gone viral, sparking mixed but mostly positive reactions online. Many praised her confidence, elegance, and commitment to her marriage. Others used the opportunity to reignite discussions around age-gap relationships, asking whether maturity or romance should matter more in long-term commitments.
Some social media users even called her a “model wife” for sticking with Razak Okoya and building a life filled with both luxury and loyalty.
Shade Okoya is not just known for being the wife of an industrialist; she is also a businesswoman and philanthropist, playing key roles in the Okoya Group’s operations. Her story continues to challenge stereotypes around love, power, and what it means to “marry well” in modern Nigerian society.
