Queen Naomi faints while in Police custody
The unfortunate saga of the Ibadan funfair has taken a more somber turn, amplifying the grief surrounding an already heart-wrenching incident.
What was intended to be a joyous Christmas gathering for children, organized by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife, alongside broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat, has tragically morphed into a nightmare.
Originally designed to entertain 5,000 children, the funfair attracted over 7,500 participants, resulting in a chaotic and devastating situation. This oversight has not only claimed young lives but has also shattered the trust of a grieving community.
In light of this tragedy, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is personally overseeing the investigation.
Prophetess Naomi Silekunola was taken into custody and reportedly collapsed under the stress on Friday, necessitating her urgent transfer to the Police Hospital at Eleyele for medical attention. Oriyomi Hamzat, the head of Agidigbo FM, also required medical assistance and was admitted to the hospital.
The incident unfolded at the Islamic High School, Basorun, during what was meant to be a festive end-of-year celebration organized by Prophetess Naomi Shikemi and broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat from Ibadan. What began as a delightful occasion for children swiftly descended into chaos, leaving behind profound sorrow and devastation that is difficult to articulate.
In the aftermath of the tragic stampede, a distressing video surfaced, capturing a haunting scene. The path to the venue was littered with remnants of innocence—small shoes, hats, and clothing scattered across the ground, silently bearing witness to the horror that had transpired.
