Police bust gun-making factory in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has made a significant discovery, uncovering a gun-manufacturing operation run by a father and his sons.
This facility was reportedly producing firearms for sale to criminals both within the state and beyond.
During a press conference held at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, on Monday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, shared the details of the operation. The factory was located thanks to reliable intelligence received by the police.
In a swift response, police operatives conducted a raid on the site, resulting in the arrest of one individual, although several others managed to escape capture. CP Eribo confirmed that David Nse Emmanuel was taken into custody, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, along with his brothers, evaded arrest.
The raid yielded a variety of seized items, including seven newly manufactured single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a specialized steel double-trigger pistol, a damaged single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and numerous iron pipes intended for gun barrel production.
Eribo reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled and to identify anyone who may have purchased or ordered firearms from this illicit factory.
