Police arrest man with gunpowder concealed in bag of casava granules (garri)
The Anambra State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects and seized a significant amount of gunpowder, concealed in bags of Garri, along with a locally-manufactured pistol and live ammunition.
These arrests were the result of an intelligence-led patrol conducted by the Police-led Joint Security Force in the Aguata area.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the police came across a suspect, whose identity has been withheld, carrying three bags of Garri. Upon further inspection, the team uncovered a concealed stash of gunpowder hidden beneath the edible grains.
Initial investigations have indicated that the suspect was on his way to a criminal camp to deliver groceries and gunpowder, which were intended for the production of improvised explosives. The suspect is presently in custody and is cooperating with the police in their efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.
