Police arraign Hon. Alex Ikwechegh for assaulting Bolt driver
The Nigerian Police Force has arraigned the member of House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, following a video that captured him assaulting a bolt driver at his residence in Abuja.
The lawmaker, who is representing Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, appeared before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje today, October 30.
He is being prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit.
He is facing charges of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life, which he has pleaded not guilty to.
The presiding judge, His Worship Abubakar Umar Sai’id, has granted Ikwechegh bail for a sum of N500,000.
The case has been adjourned to November 8.
The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced this on X, writing: “RULE OF LAW: POLICE PROSECUTES HON ALEXANDER IKWEGH FOR ASSAULT.. Details soon.”
Recall the incident involving Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh, who was captured on video berating a bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, for his refusal to leave his vehicle to deliver a package to him at his residence.
In the video, Ikwechegh is seen slapping Abuwatseya multiple times and threatening to make him vanish.
In response to the widespread outrage, Ikwechegh has since issued a public apology.
