Please, don’t Japa, It’s not a good idea – CBN governor urges Nigerians
The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso has urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reconsider any plans to emigrate from the country.
He emphasized that the central bank is committed to fostering an economy conducive to the success of all individuals and businesses.
This appeal was made during his keynote address at the 59th annual Bankers Dinner hosted by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos.
“It is not advisable to leave the country at this juncture. There are two main reasons for this. First, those who choose to leave will likely sell their assets at a loss.
“Such actions will attract opportunistic buyers from abroad who will acquire these assets at a bargain, only to later benefit from the eventual recovery of the market.
“Secondly, it is essential to be part of the solution. We need collective effort at this critical time,” he stated.
He noted that there are numerous opportunities available in the current market, highlighting that recent experiences over the past year, particularly the last six months, have shown a significant interest in Nigeria.
While acknowledging the considerable challenges posed by ongoing reforms, the apex bank governor reiterated that these reforms are aimed at addressing present difficulties and securing future opportunities, ultimately striving to create an economy where everyone can prosper.
