Nyesom Wike issues 5-day quit notice to Abuja street beggars
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern directive to beggars, ordering them to vacate the streets of Abuja or face the consequences.
This ultimatum was given on Tuesday, October 22, during the inauguration ceremony for the construction of a road connecting Ring Road 1 to the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, Abuja.
Wike emphasized that beggars have until Sunday to leave the capital or face the full might of the administration’s actions. He expressed his view that permitting beggars to roam freely throughout the territory was not only an embarrassment but also a reflection poorly on the government and the nation.
He urged their families and relatives to intervene and remove them from the streets before the FCT Administration’s full enforcement begins next week.
“Yes, we are providing infrastructure in Abuja which security is not left out. We can’t allow beggars all over the place, some of them are criminals and informants to criminals, it is an embarrassment to the territory especially to visitors.
We are now calling on their families and relatives to take them off the street, they have till Sunday to leave the streets.
The government is providing infrastructure and addressing insecurity; we cannot allow people to become a security threat. From now until Sunday is their grace period” he said
