No reason to think Osinbajo has left politics – Akande
The representative for former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Mr. Laolu Akande, has emphasized that there is no basis for anyone to think that Osinbajo has exited politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akande shared this insight during a discussion with reporters on Sunday in Lagos.
Since stepping down from office in 2023, Osinbajo has kept a relatively low profile, leading to speculation about his potential withdrawal from the APC and active political life. His noticeable absence from various political events has prompted some observers to question his ongoing connection to the ruling party.
Osinbajo participated in the APC presidential primary in 2022 but was defeated by President Bola Tinubu. He previously held the position of Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during Tinubu’s governorship.
Some political commentators have attributed Osinbajo’s diminished presence in the political arena to his primary defeat, while others suggest he may be redirecting his efforts following his recent role as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
In response to these rumors, Akande stated that Osinbajo has never expressed any intention of leaving politics and confirmed that he is still an active member of the APC. He also mentioned that the former Vice President would engage in any APC events that require his attendance.
“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC; he is still a member of APC. If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t know about him leaving the party,” Akande said.
