Super Eagle’s player Victor Boniface, has shared his grievances about the challenging ordeal his team faced after being stranded at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya for an astounding 12 hours.
The Nigerian squad, en route for a crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier, encountered unforeseen delays upon their arrival in the country on Sunday.
Expressing his frustration on X on Monday, Boniface wrote, “Been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no Wi-Fi, nowhere to sleep. Africa, we can do better.”
He also urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene in their delay.
On Sunday, October 13, Libyan officials fulfilled their threat to mishandle the Super Eagles and the Nigerian delegation in preparation for the return qualifying match in Benina.
The flight intended to transport the Nigerian team to Benghazi was unexpectedly diverted to a different city, a two-hour drive away, leaving the players stranded at the Al Abraq airport for several hours.
The players and their agents were confined to the airport’s arrival hall for several hours, unable to leave.
A video released on Sunday captured the Nigerian players and officials attempting to resolve the situation at the airport in the North African country.
The Super Eagles are set to face off against the bottom-ranked Mediterranean Knights at the 10,000-capacity stadium in Benina, located 19 kilometers from Benghazi on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
