NNPC releases names of six victims of crashed helicopter
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced with deep sorrow the names of six employees who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Thursday.
The victims, as recorded on the flight’s electronic manifest, are Tamunoemi Suku, Alu Lawrence, Etim Emmanuel, Kenneth Chikwem, Frank Oriamre, and Borris Ndorbo. The pilot, Captain Yakubu Dukas, also perished in the accident, along with one additional passenger whose identity remains unknown.
According to reports from SaharaReporters, a helicopter operated by East Winds Aviation was en route to the FPSO-NUIMS ANTAN facility when it tragically crashed in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Nigerian Air Management Agency (NAMA) has mobilized resources to support the search and recovery efforts, enlisting help from neighboring countries, including Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, in hopes of finding the missing helicopter and its four passengers.
At the time of the crash, eight individuals were onboard. So far, search teams have recovered five bodies, with three found shortly after the incident and two more discovered on Friday. Despite ongoing search operations, efforts to locate the wreckage or any other remaining victims have been fruitless.
Umar Farouq, the Managing Director of NAMA, reassured the public that search efforts are being coordinated with multiple agencies. “Through a collaborative approach, we are actively pursuing this matter. We remain hopeful about recovering the missing helicopter and its passengers,” he said. Farouq also confirmed that all relevant Flight Information Regions were actively engaged in the search efforts.
