Nigerians criticize my fashion style because of my age – Tiwa Savage
Afrobeats artist Tiwa Savage has opened up about the ongoing criticism she endures regarding her fashion sense.
In a recent appearance on the ‘Receipts’ podcast, the 44-year-old single mother revealed that she frequently encounters negative comments about her style, particularly because of her age.
Savage voiced her disappointment, noting that while other female stars in their 40s, such as American singer Beyoncé, are praised for their enduring beauty when they wear revealing outfits, she often faces age-related criticism from Nigerians for doing the same.
She said;
“They age-shame me every single day. They say, a woman of you age, how can you be wearing a bikini? I can because I have a body.
“Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis but Americans don’t age shame her. They would be like, for her age, black don’t crack. It’s more celebrated when you look good in your older age.
“But they [Nigerians], always throw these things like, when her son grows up, he’s going to see this. My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and beautiful woman.”
