Nigerian star Ademola Lookman tops CAF Player of the Year Shortlist
Nigeria striker Ademola Lookman and South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams have both been named among the elite five stars shortlisted for the African Player of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football has announced Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra, and Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy as the other contenders for the prestigious honor.
Lookman’s prowess shone brightly as he scored a hat-trick for Atalanta in their 3-0 UEFA Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen the previous season, positioning him as a strong contender for the award.
Victor Osimhen of Nigeria emerged as the 2023 Player of the Year after an outstanding season with Napoli. Since then, he has been loaned to Galatasaray.
The ceremony, where awards in various categories will be presented to the continent’s top football stars, is scheduled to take place in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on December 16.
