My Swedish wife divorced me for being stuck in Nigeria during lockdown – May D
Nigerian artist Akinmayokun Awodumila, better known as May D, has recently shared details about his hidden marriage to a Swedish woman and their subsequent divorce.
The ‘Soundtrack’ hitmaker disclosed that after moving from Nigeria, he took on the role of a “house husband” in Sweden. However, the couple ended their marriage during the COVID-19 lockdown while he was stuck in Nigeria.
In a candid conversation on The Honest Bunch podcast, May D mentioned that he was at home in Sweden caring for their child. He also noted that, despite not having a job, he was making more money from performances than his wife, who was employed.
He said, “I went to Sweden for a show but decided to settle down there since my girlfriend was Swedish. I was a house husband. What do you want me to do? I should go and work?
“My wife was working but when I go for show, I make five times what she earn in a month. I was a house husband but I was comfortable. I had my baby, my wife can’t be the one taking care of the baby and working at the same time.”
On what led to their divorce, May D said, “We got divorced during COVID-19 because I got stuck in Nigeria. That was how she divorced me. You know they think different from us.”
