Manchester United appoints new coach
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim head coach of Manchester United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday.
This decision comes after Ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford, which spanned two and a half years, concluded with a lackluster start to the season.
The team’s recent performance has been underwhelming, with United currently occupying the 14th position in the Premier League table.
Ten Hag’s leadership saw the club secure two domestic trophies during his tenure: the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
The 54-year-old former Ajax boss was backed by new co-owners INEOS in the summer with a contract extension until June 2026.
