Man thre*tens to k!ll girlfriend for refusing to terminate pregnancy
A 33-year-old man from Plumtree, identified as Bhekimpilo Moyo, is currently embroiled in legal trouble following allegations of trying to coerce his girlfriend into ending a pregnancy without consent, which allegedly led to a violent altercation.
The incident culminated in Plumtree Magistrates Court, where Magistrate Joshua Nembaware issued an arrest warrant for Moyo after he failed to show up for his court appearance on Friday, October 25.
Court documents detail the escalation of the situation on August 26 when Moyo paid a visit to his girlfriend’s residence. Upon learning about her pregnancy, Moyo demanded an abortion, to which she staunchly refused. This refusal, according to the prosecution, provoked a violent reaction from Moyo, who allegedly threatened her life with a knife. The victim, fortunately, managed to flee to a neighbor’s house, escaping unharmed.
The next day, Moyo allegedly returned and intensified the situation by throwing soil into the victim’s room and forcibly entering to take her mobile phone. These actions have led to additional charges being brought against him.
The prosecution, led by Selestine Madziwa, underscored the gravity of Moyo’s actions and the distress inflicted upon the victim. Authorities are currently on the hunt for Moyo, who has yet to be found, while the victim continues to live in fear as her court case progresses.
