Man sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for stealing goat in Jos
A Jos Magistrates’ Court has handed down a sentence to trader Zih Davou, sentencing him to 18 months behind bars for the theft of a goat from a residence.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos conducted the trial and handed down the verdict on Wednesday, following Davou’s guilty plea to the offense.
In his decision, Bokkos mandated that Davou either pay a fine of N50,000 or serve one year in jail, in addition to compensating the victim with N50,000, or alternatively, six months behind bars for non-compliance.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported on August 19, at the “B” Division police station by one Fawole Ayodeji.
Thiawur detailed how the offender unlawfully gained entry to the complainant’s property and stole the goat, valued at N100,000.
“The same convict had been arrested before for stealing 15 measures of rice, 10 measures of fertiliser and a bundle of zinc from this same house,” he said.
According to the police, this crime violated several sections of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
