The family of legendary Juju music icon, Sunday Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), has firmly debunked recent viral reports suggesting the veteran musician is missing or has been kidnapped.
In a swift response to the trending claims made by one of his daughters, Damilola Esther Adeniyi, the family clarified that the 77-year-old music legend is “safe and sound”, and has not been abducted or held against his will.
The controversy erupted after Damilola took to social media earlier this week, alleging that her father was missing and possibly being held incommunicado by her stepbrother, Dayo, who also serves as King Sunny Ade’s manager.
In an emotional series of posts, Damilola accused Dayo and other family members of kidnapping KSA, claiming the music icon was being forced to work under duress.
“King Sunny Ade has been kidnapped. The manager, Dayo, is the culprit along with his mother, brothers, and driver,” she alleged in a now-viral Instagram post.
In an official statement released by Dayo Adegeye, speaking on behalf of the family, the claims were described as “malicious” and completely false.
“We want to assure the public that King Sunny Ade is safe and sound. There is no truth to the kidnapping rumor,” the statement read.
He went further to say that the family is taking legal steps to address the situation and to trace the source of the fake reports, which they say are attempts to tarnish the legacy of the King of World Beats.
“The Adegeye family and King Sunny Ade’s team are working diligently to put an end to the rumour and protect his reputation.”
The scare stirred massive concern among fans and well-wishers, given the singer’s iconic status and age. King Sunny Ade, widely regarded as a pioneer of Juju music, has had a celebrated career spanning over five decades, with a global following and numerous accolades.
Fans took to social media to express both support and confusion, demanding transparency on the legendary singer’s current condition.
