The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), EFCC, has reported that its operatives have successfully apprehended approximately four suspected bank hackers in Abuja.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the anti-corruption agency, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that these individuals were captured for alleged involvement in a conspiracy, unauthorized access to banks’ computer systems, and fraudulent withdrawal of funds from depositors.
Mr. Oyewale named the suspects as Chima Anthony Nwigwe, who is allegedly the leader of a banking hacking syndicate; Mohammed Bello Mahmud; Effiong Victor Emmanuel; and Daminan Ali, the managing director of Downstone Ultimate Limited.
The EFCC spokesperson announced that the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation in Abuja, following credible intelligence.
He revealed that the individuals were allegedly engaged in hacking and breaching the databases of commercial banks, leading to fraudulent transactions and withdrawals across various digital platforms.
Furthermore, Dele mentioned that the suspects would face legal charges in court once the investigations are concluded.
