Dr Sid announces his relocation to United States
Nigerian singer and songwriter, Sydney Esiri, better known as Dr. Sid, has officially announced his move to the United States of America.
In a recent episode of the ‘No Man’s Friend’ podcast, the ‘Over The Moon’ sensation shared his journey of relocating from Nigeria, attributing his move to a job opportunity in the U.S.
“I now live in the U.S. I left Nigeria last year after I got a job with a company in New York that offered me an opportunity to move to the States and live anywhere in the U.S.
“I’ve family in Houston, my best friend lives here so Houston, Texas was an easy choice. And that is it. I’ve been working here for the last one year and a half,” he said.
Dr Sid gained prominence in 2002 when he was made a member of Da Trybe, and given a spot on the Hip-hop hit, ‘Oya’ alongside Sasha, 2-Shotz, Timi, DEL, and the Trybesmen (Eldee, Kb and Freestyle).
A year later, he released his debut solo single ‘Don’t Stop.’ Following that, he took a hiatus from music to pursue his university degree and became a qualified dentist.
He then moved to the UK to collaborate with artists such as JJC & the 419 Squad, Felix Duke, KAS, R70, D’Prince, and D’Banj.
In 2005, Dr Sid started recording a studio album titled ‘Prognosis’ which featured the single ‘Raise Da roof’, but later abandoned the album.
In 2007, Dr Sid quit practicing as a dentist after three years and decided to concentrate fully on his music career signing on to Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records. His debut solo studio album, ‘Turning Point’ was released in April 2010, with the standout tracks ‘Over The Moon’ and ‘Pop Something’.
After a disagreement with his partners at Mo’ Hits Records, D’banj and Don Jazzy in 2012, Dr. Sid signed with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.
In December 2013, he released his sophomore album, “Siduction,” under Mavin Records.
The following year, Dr. Sid made his acting debut in Moses Inwang’s “The Last 3 Digits.” He played the role of an NYSC corp member and a close friend to Nonso Diobi in the film.
