Diddy’s jail cell allegedly raided by the Feds
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has accused the authorities of raiding his jail cell and confiscating “a bunch of privileged materials.”
According to TMZ, Combs’ attorney has alleged that investigators seized his notes, intended for his legal team for an upcoming trial. The raid is said to have occurred while Combs is still under police custody in New York City.
In a letter seeking an immediate hearing, his lawyers claimed that prosecutors unlawfully obtained “privileged material, including the defendant’s own written notes,” during a raid on Combs’ cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
They stated that these materials were used against him in documents filed in Manhattan federal court on Friday, in an attempt to prolong his detention before his trial on May 5.
“This search and seizure are in violation of Mr. Combs’ Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights,” the lawyers told Judge Arun Subramanian.
“The targeted seizure of a pre-trial detainee’s work product and privileged materials – created in preparation for trial – is outrageous government conduct amounting to a substantive due process violation,” they added.
They demanded that the prosecutors explain who authorized the search of Combs’ cell, where personal items and documents were taken.
Judge Arun Subramanian has given the prosecutors until 5 p.m. ET Monday to respond to Combs’ legal team and to schedule a hearing on the matter for Tuesday afternoon.
Combs has been detained in pre-trial custody since September, awaiting trial on charges that he “led a racketeering conspiracy that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice, among other crimes.”
He is currently seeking to be placed on house arrest through a $50 million bail package.
