Court remands three students for allegedly causing d*ath of 16-year-old colleague in Oyo
A Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Iyaganku, on Tuesday, mandated the detention of three students for allegedly instigating a fight that led to the de*th of a 16-year-old student.
The students, Shodimu Halima (18), Agbedun Zainab (23), and Olaleye Oladunni (23), who are students at Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology, are currently charged with two counts of conspiracy and murder.
Magistrate M. Mudashiru, who decided against considering their pleas due to lack of jurisdiction, appointed them remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan.
Mr Mudashiru said the remand was pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecuting attorney, Femi Oluwadare, had previously informed the court that the defendants allegedly planned and carried out the attack with others outside of the court.
According to the prosecution’s account, the defendants are accused of k*lling Eniola Ismail, a 16-year-old girl, by be*ting her with fists on July 29 at approximately 4:00 p.m. in Iseyin, Oyo State.
“The defendants allegedly fought with the deceased on July 29 in school, after which the deceased went home,” he said.
“Getting home, the deceased complained of body pains, only to d!e later.”
Mr Oluwadare said the offences were contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000
