Council to arrest parents of children hawking during school hours
The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr. Eric Odo,has pledged to take action against parents whose children or wards are found selling goods during school hours.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Public School Supervision Committee (PSSC) of the council area on Monday, Nov. 25, Ogbede, Odo expressed his commitment to transforming public schools in the area as a means to eradicate the issue of children dropping out of school.
Odo tasked the PSSC with the responsibility of ensuring that children who have been out of school are reintegrated, emphasizing that the council would provide uniforms, bags, sandals, and other necessary items to support this goal.
He emphasized that there was no valid reason for a child to be out of school.
“Children must go back to school and school must return to what it was. We will treat any sick child and provide one meal per day for pupils, if need be,” he said.
He also cautioned parents against allowing their children to engage in hawking activities during school hours, promising legal action against those who do.
