Nigerian comedian Daniel Nnwoka, popularly known as Deehumorous, has made a surprising revelation about Grammy-winning star Burna Boy — long before the global tours and Billboard plaques, the African Giant was once a radio host.
Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM, Deehumorous shared that he and Burna Boy were once colleagues at Rhythm 93.7 FM Port Harcourt, co-hosting afternoon shows together in the early 2010s.
“We were doing Afternoon Shows with Valve and Owu on Rhythm 93.7 FM in Port Harcourt,”
Deehumorous said. “Burna Boy’s sound has been unique from day one.”
While many fans believe that Burna’s breakout single Like to Party was his debut, Deehumorous cleared the air, saying the hit track was recorded after Burna had already released Abeg Abeg and Wonbolowo and even performed live band concerts in Port Harcourt.
He recalled a pivotal moment in 2012 when Wizkid took notice of Burna Boy’s music and gave him a major boost.
“Wizkid had just returned from the US, and one of his first tweets was ‘Who is this Burna Boy I’m hearing on the radio? I want to meet him.’ That tweet gave Burna a wider audience. Lagos started paying attention.”
Deehumorous emphasized that Burna Boy had already established himself locally in Port Harcourt, long before the Lagos crowd caught wind of his talent.
“Port Harcourt was dropping hood bangers every day. We had artists like Double K, Ijaw Boys, and Thick Lips. Burna was one of us, and we were already vibing to his music.”
The comedian described Burna as a naturally gifted performer who’s been freestyling and experimenting with live music setups for years — traits fans now know him for globally.
“Some of the freestyles he does now, he’s been doing for a long time. He’s always had that energy, and it’s beautiful that he has someone like his mother managing him.”
