In a historic moment for the K-pop industry, Bain, a member of the rising South Korean boy group Just B, has publicly come out as gay.
The 23-year-old singer shared the personal revelation during a solo performance at the group’s concert in Los Angeles, marking a rare and courageous act in a music scene known for its conservative approach to idol image and personal lives.
“I’m proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community as a gay person,” Bain said onstage, visibly emotional as fans in the audience responded with cheers and applause.
The heartfelt moment was captured by fans and quickly spread across social media, where many praised the idol for his bravery and honesty. Bain continued his message with words of encouragement:
“To anyone out there who’s part of the LGBTQ+ community, or still figuring it out this is for you. You are seen, you are loved, and you were born this way.”

Korean media outlet News1 reported that Bain is now the first male K-pop star to come out publicly. His statement breaks a long-standing silence in an industry where conversations about sexual orientation remain largely taboo, despite K-pop’s massive global influence and fanbase diversity.
Following the performance, Bain’s bandmate Siwoo showed his support with a touching message on a fan platform. “I was watching from backstage and I cried too,” he wrote. “I cried even more because I knew how hard it was for him.”
Fans from around the world have since flooded social media with messages of love, pride, and support, pushing hashtags like #ProudOfBain, #KpopForEveryone, and #LGBTQinKpop into trending status on Twitter and TikTok.
This brave declaration has not only left a lasting impression on fans but has also opened up conversations around identity, visibility, and representation in Korean entertainment. Bain’s courage could mark the beginning of a more inclusive era in K-pop, where idols are free to live authentically and connect with their fans on a deeper, more personal level.
