All federal roads will be motorable before Christmas – Minister Umahi
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has announced the federal government’s ambitious goal to make all federal high roads accessible by Christmas.
During a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo state, on Thursday, Umahi revealed that the administration has taken over 2,000 unfinished road projects, valued at trillions of naira. He further disclosed that contracts with 10 non-compliant companies have been terminated, with the potential for more to follow.
Stressing the importance of transparency, Umahi declared, “Our financial records are completely transparent. We plan to finalize the design for Ondo state’s project by November and celebrate its inauguration.” He also outlined plans to enhance road conditions across the nation, with federal road controllers tasked with reporting road conditions to ensure all federal highways are operational by Christmas.
Regarding the Aiyetoro community in Ondo, which has been dealing with significant sea encroachment, Umahi expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the issue. “We are returning to Ondo after your election to commence the Aiyetoro project, which will be completed after this one,” he stated, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to infrastructure and development.
The minister also affirmed that a 63-kilometer stretch of the Calabar-Lagos coastal highway in Ondo is slated for inauguration in December. Construction on this project is expected to commence following the design’s completion, which is scheduled for next month.
