Afrobeats artist Skales has pointed to extrajudicial punishments as a key factor in Nigeria’s comparatively lower crime rate than that of the United Kingdom.
In a recent conversation on Just Vibes, Skales noted that criminals in Nigeria recognize the possibility of facing severe extrajudicial repercussions if apprehended, which deters them from acting as boldly as their counterparts in the UK.
“There is lesser crime in Nigeria compared to UK because they know if they [criminals] get caught, there is jungle justice. They burn you alive,” he said.
The singer, however, expressed his disapproval of jungle justice, citing its extrajudicial characteristics.
In another segment of the interview, Skales discussed afrobeats as a musical genre.
He remarked that nobody can accurately define how the genre should sound, emphasizing that it serves more as an umbrella term encompassing various musical styles rather than fitting into a single genre.
