The Adamawa State Government has confirmed the outbreak of cholera, which has led to the tragic loss of 12 lives.
This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, during a statement in Yola on Sunday.
Tangwami disclosed that out of the 50 suspected cholera cases, 30 have been confirmed positive, with six fatalities occurring within medical facilities and the remaining six at home. A total of 308 individuals have sought treatment, with 244 having been discharged.
“We received the results of samples sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for confirmation,” said Tangwami. “Unfortunately, 30 samples tested positive for cholera.”
The commissioner advised the public to maintain vigilance concerning their movements, hygiene, and water sources. He also assured that the government is working tirelessly to manage the outbreak and called on residents to cooperate with health workers conducting awareness campaigns.
“We ask for continued prayers and support as we work to contain this situation,” he added.
