Nigerian actress Nse Ikpe-Etim has fired back at a man who suggested he was searching for an Akwa Ibom woman to marry just so she could cook traditional dishes for him.
The exchange began after Nse shared a post about Afang soup, a popular delicacy from Akwa Ibom. In response, a social media user identified as Akobi Eledumare commented under her post, expressing his desire to marry an Akwa Ibom woman because he was tired of eating Ewedu and Semo.
“Na why I dey find better Ibom girl wey I go marry, this ewedu n semo don tire jo,” he wrote.
However, Nse wasn’t impressed with his reasoning and had a simple piece of advice for him: “Find a chef.”
The actress, known for her outspoken views on societal issues, didn’t stop there. In response to another follower who tried to extend the conversation, she made it clear that love and marriage should not be based on such transactional ideas.
“He doesn’t love himself? This conversation shouldn’t be happening. Some people enjoy cooking. Some don’t. It’s not enough to start a war or insist it’s one person’s role. Everyone eats — so?” Nse added.
Her response has been praised widely online, with many applauding her for standing against outdated gender expectations and reinforcing that cooking should not be assigned strictly to women in relationships.
The conversation has reignited broader discussions about gender roles, domestic responsibilities, and respect in Nigerian marriages — especially at a time when younger generations are challenging traditional norms more openly.
