Emotional moment Jude Okoye, former manager of the defunct music duo P-Square, reunited with his children after spending nearly two months in detention over money laundering allegations involving over N1.38 billion.
The heartwarming moment, captured in a now-viral video, shows his two daughters and a son running into the living room, completely unaware their father was hiding behind a chair. As soon as they spotted him, they screamed in joy and flung themselves into his arms, toppling him into a chair in an outburst of pure love and relief.
Jude Okoye was released from Ikoyi Correctional Centre on Wednesday, April 23, after finally meeting the N50 million bail conditions tied to fresh charges filed by the EFCC. He had previously been granted N100 million bail in a related case but remained in detention after the additional charges were filed.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, of laundering funds totaling N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. In a fresh filing, they also alleged that he diverted music royalties belonging to Peter Okoye, including $767,544.15, £34,537.59, $133,566.49, and $118,652.20, for personal use.
Jude, who pleaded not guilty, is expected to return to court as the case continues before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Shortly after his release, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) shared the joyful reunion video on Instagram, writing:
“Jude is finally out after 2months + all their efforts to frustrate his bail have finally collapsed. Welcome home, brother @judeengees. And happy birthday.”
The charges stem from a petition filed by Peter Okoye, who claimed Jude diverted funds from their joint P-Square business accounts to his personal company without proper consent.
