Nigerian rap star Ice Prince is showing major love to his mentor and long-time collaborator MI Abaga, crediting the Crowd Mentality rapper for shaping him into the artist he is today.
In a revealing chat with Isbaeu on Curiosity Made Me Ask, Ice Prince didn’t hold back on his respect and admiration for MI. According to him, MI didn’t just inspire his love for rap—he personally taught him the craft.
“I can rap on any beat with any rapper, and I will still stand out,” Ice Prince said with confidence. “I’m not going to have a wack verse on a song.”
While making it clear he respects other rappers, he emphasized that his lyrical strength comes from MI’s mentorship.
“I’m not saying other rappers cannot rap, but it cannot be said that I’m wack. I was brought up by the best, shout out to MI Abaga,” he said.
The two artists go way back as part of the iconic Chocolate City crew, where they worked closely together and delivered classic hits that defined Nigerian hip-hop in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
“I rapped with him for years. He is my big brother, and he taught me well.”
Fans have been reacting to the interview online, praising Ice Prince for acknowledging the foundation laid by MI, who many see as a pioneer of modern African rap.
The tribute comes at a time when more Nigerian rappers are speaking up about mentorship, legacy, and the future of hip-hop in Africa.
