Nigerian football icon Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is expressing his support for the Super Eagles, encouraging them to reclaim their path to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup—but only if they seize control of their destiny.
Although the qualifiers have started off on a shaky note, Okocha maintains that a route to success still exists, albeit requiring nothing less than flawless execution.
The Super Eagles provided a flicker of optimism with their victory over Rwanda, yet faltered again with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Zimbabwe. This outcome has left Nigeria in fourth place in their group, trailing behind South Africa by six points.
Nevertheless, Okocha—who has donned the national colors in three World Cups—is not ready to write off the team just yet.
“If we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches,” he told iDiski Times.
“Bafana Bafana are top of the group — it will be a tough game, but I believe we can go there and win. If we want to qualify, those are the games we need to win.”
