Rivers State women on Friday staged a protest against the declaration of a state of emergency in the region.
These frustrated women labeled the emergency declaration as a politically charged maneuver designed to weaken democracy.
Under the leadership of Nancy Chidi Nwankwo, they contended that the circumstances in the state did not present any real threat to national security.
Their demands include the swift reinstatement of all democratic institutions in Rivers State, particularly the re-establishment of the elected governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The demonstrators denounced what they termed unconstitutional enforcement of military governance masquerading as a state of emergency, labeling it as unwarranted and intolerable.
The coalition also sought the support of esteemed Nigerians, such as former presidents and diplomats, to step in and persuade President Bola Tinubu to retract what they called a serious injustice.
The women reiterated their dedication to nonviolent opposition, promising to persist in their fight for freedom, justice, and self-determination.
