Retract immediately – Davido faces backlash over controversial comment on Nigerian economy
Afrobeats sensation Davido has faced significant backlash for his recent comments advising black Americans, especially those from Nigeria, to not reconsider returning home due to the country’s economic challenges.
This statement came at a time when there were growing rumors among some black Americans about considering leaving the United States following the election of US President-elect Donald Trump.
The singer’s remarks have sparked worry among Africans in America about potential policies from Trump that might not be favorable to them.
In response to these speculations, Davido stated, “It’s not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.”
However, his comments were met with criticism from some individuals who called on him to retract his statement immediately.
Igbokwe said, “My In-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria’s economy is in shambles.
“This is very sad. I will advise him to retract the statement asap. Nigeria made Davido. QED!!!”
Similarly, Bashir Ahmed, a former aide to Nigerian former president, Mohammadu Buhari said the remark was disappointing.
In a post on his official X handle, Bashir said, “Selling out your country from foreign soil is so disappointing and unpatriotic. Public figures like Davido should know that.
“They should act and be seen as good ambassadors for Nigeria wherever they find themselves. @NOA_Nigeria”!
