Fake policeman arrested in Adamawa for extortion
A man has been apprehended by operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting money from individuals.
The suspect, Shafiu Abdulkadir, 26, hails from Anguwan Yelwa in Yola North Local Government Area, was taken into custody on Thursday, September 26, following a statement issued by the police on Friday.
The statement, signed by the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, details that the suspect was discovered demanding money from tricyclists passing through the Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and in the vicinity of Jimeta Modern Market, both located in Yola North Local Government Area.
“The arrest was a follow-up to the information regarding the activities of some vigilante men going around threatening and extorting Keke NAPEP riders,” the statement explained.
It added: “Upon his arrest, the suspect was found wearing police camouflage trousers and a black shirt with the inscription ‘Special Force’ and boots.”
The statement concluded that the suspect would face charges in court once the investigation was concluded.
